The Project SUPPORT - Spinal cord injUry Peer supPORT training for women
Equality and the right to non-discrimination are fundamental elements of European policy, as Chapter 3 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union prohibits discrimination based on criteria such as gender, disability, and sexual orientation. However, disabled individuals continue to experience exclusion, a situation that worsens for women with disabilities. Specifically, for people with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), one of the greatest challenges they face is reintegration into the community and finding ways to participate in roles they held before their injury.Peer support, especially from mentors with similar experiences, plays a significant role in aiding this journey, particularly for women with disabilities.
The SUPPORT project -Spinal cord injUry Peer supPORT training for women- aims to harness the positive impact of peer support by providing training and support specifically for women with Spinal Cord Injuries.
The project's objectives are to:
- Empower women with disabilities to combat the effects of dual discrimination,
- Advocate for the development of peer support systems,
- Promote the active involvement of healthcare professionals in post-rehabilitation efforts, and to train volunteers in personal assistance topics.
The project is being implemented in collaboration between the Association for Research and Education in Clinical Skills and the mobility disability organization Alli Opsi.
